Media Training Concluded

Communication and Media Skills Training for Youth and Social Workers

On 27th June 2019, sixteen participants drawn from Kenya, South Sudan, Tanzania, South Africa, Uganda and Madagascar completed a one month media skills training which was conducted by Bosco Eastern Africa Multimedia Services (BEAMS) at Don Bosco Youth Educational Services (DBYES) in Karen, Nairobi. The training began on 3rd June 2019 with the aim of equipping youth and social workers with communication and media skills. The training covered various topics namely; radio news, its impacts and limitations, types of radio programs, film critique, Photography, Introduction to web-design / Blog, Notice board-an effective means of communication/Preparing posters, newsletter and magazine making with Photoshop and Indesign, audio production and video production. The program had various learning methods which included lectures, practical (hands-on) sessions, group discussions, role plays, videos and group projects.
In his address during the graduation ceremony, Fr Maina, BEAMS director, urged all the participants to take the knowledge seriously in order to make their work smart citing that through social media there are lots of challenges that needs skills in social media and journalism. He also added that media is very important  if people know how to use it in the right way without complication adding that social media can have both negative and positive impacts. There is need for  creativeness for people using social media in order to bring about positive impact.

One of the participants, Sr. Rose Nafula, appreciated the administration of DBYES, and BEAMS in particular, for organizing this media training. She said that she will continue to implement what she has learnt and that she will teach others in her community.

On the same note Br. Clarence Watts from South Africa appreciated the administration for allowing him to participate in the training and assured all that he will make sure that he will display the knowledge following the same method he was taught in trained. He advised his fellow participants to disseminate the good knowledge they have gained in order to transform the life of people in their communities. He appreciated the good work done by the trainers during the training.

At the end of the training, which ended on 27th June, 2019, the participants were able to produce short magazines, short videos and radio programs. The participants were awarded with certificates.
